Uzma Khan withdraws case against Malik Riaz’s daughters

Model and actor Uzma Khan on Tuesday informed the police and a local court that the FIR [First Information Report] she had registered against three women and their armed guards, whom she had accused last week of torturing her and her sister, was based on a “misunderstanding” and that she was withdrawing the case.

On May 27, the actor had registered the FIR against property tycoon Malik Riaz’s daughters Pashmina Malik and Ambar Malik, Amina Usman Malik (wife of the son of Riaz’s sister-in-law), and 15 unidentified armed men — with whom the three women had stormed a house in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on May 24 and assaulted her and her sister Huma Khan. Video clips showing violence carried out on the two women had sparked outrage and calls for justice on social media earlier this week.

Her sister, Huma, in her separate statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC said “no such occurrence” — a reference to the violence — had taken place at their house.

“[The] accused party has not made any torture upon me,” she submitted, adding that the injuries she was seen to have sustained in social media videos were caused by broken “glass from [a] table”.

She further said the suspects nominated in the FIR are “innocent”.

“My sister namely Uzma Khan got registered the instant FIR due to misunderstanding. Therefore, the same may very kindly be cancelled,” Huma added.

On Monday, Uzma’s counsels Khadija Siddiqui and Barrister Hassaan Niazi had also disassociated themselves from the case after reports that the victims and the accused party had reached a settlement.

Earlier on Monday, a session court granted interim bail to the three women and ordered them to furnish surety bonds of Rs50,000 each. The court also issued notices to the SHO concerned and sought the case record on the next date of hearing.
